The CRFJ hosts, for variable durations, CNRS researchers, professors, invited researchers, and PhD candidates and post-doctoral fellows or interns under different status. Each status is prone to a specific procedure.

Appointment of CNRS researchers
The CNRS researchers of the CRFJ are directly appointed to the research unit.
Their application is subject to approval of the INSHS (Institute of Social Sciences and Humanities of the CNRS).

Hosting associate professors and professors
The CNRS hosts seconded researchers from French universities (associate professors and professors) in its Research Institutes based abroad for a six-month to one-year duration (with possible extension).

The application is subject to approval from the direction of the home institution and from the CNRS.
Researchers are seconded to the CRFJ and are full members of the team during the complete duration of their secondment. For more information, click

Visiting researchers
Researchers may come for research activities - necessarily related to one of the CRFJ research orientations – for short- or mid-term periods.
The applications will be examined by the director of the CRFJ. They preferably need to be submitted by the end of the civil year in order to be included in the scientific programme of the following year

These missions can be partially funded by the CRFJ (support for travel costs, reimbursement of certain mission expenses).
The application is composed of a reference letter, a resumé, and the research project’s summary.
It must be addressed to the director of the CRFJ to the following email address  : crfj@cnrs.fr

International Mobility Grant for PhD candidates and postdoctoral fellows (AMI)
These one to 9-months international mobility grants are available for:

  • students enrolled in a PhD programme
  • postdoctoral holders of a PhD degree.

How to apply :
The call for proposals is published every year in the spring (november-december).
The research projects must be related to one of the research orientations of the CRFJ.
The candidates must be enrolled in a PhD programme or holders of a PhD degree from one of the French universities of the European Union.
The applications will be reviewed by the Scientific Council of the CRFJ during its yearly meeting.
The application form has to be completed with all the necessary information and attached documents. It must be sent in a numerical format before 31 January 2021 to the following email address: crfj@cnrs.fr.

Project and Mobility Grant (AMU-CRFJ) 
The action UMIFRE 2021 ‘Collaboration Aix-Marseille CRFJ and IRMC in the Mediterranean’ allows the funding of projects for a maximum duration of 18 months or a 1 to 12 months mobility.

  • Project funding is intended for AMU researchers, professors, PhD candidates or post-doctoral fellows.
  • The mobility grant is intended for AMU researchers, professors, PhD candidates, post-doctoral fellows or Master students.

How to apply
All the applications related to one of the 3 research orientations of the CRFJ are eligible. The applications are submitted through the application form A*Midex from 18 November 2021 to 20 January 2022 12h00. Results will be communicated in May 2022 for a provision of funds in June 2022. Additional information in relation to this action are available on the dedicated webpage of the CRFJ or on AMIDEX.

 Internships
Internships are aimed for students of any nationality in the frame of their university studies at the Master 1 or Master 2 level.
Internships last for a duration of up to two months; it does not entitle to any compensation.
Internships are settled by internship agreements between the home university of the student-intern and the CNRS.
Such agreements are signed by the CNRS president, the president of the university and the director of the CRFJ before the appointment of the student-intern in the CRFJ.

How to apply
An application (reference letter, research project and resumé) is to be addressed to the director of the CRFJ to the following email address: crfj@cnrs.fr
The application is first reviewed by the director of the CRFJ. The student-intern will then need to send a complete set of documents (cf. the descriptive below), at the latest one month before the starting date of the internship.
The student-intern will be appointed to the CRFJ only once the agreement will be signed by all parties.

– the assignment order signed by the university and validated by the Defense and Security officer from the university
– a copy of the passport
– a copy of the student card
– a copy of the diplomas
– insurances’ certificates (liability insurance, repatriation coverage)
